STOP CO-GOVERNANCE

A Showdown Is Coming Part 4. Radical Maori (or Tribalists) say "In 1840 Maori numbered roughly 75,000 and the British 2000. Why would 75,000 people (Maori) give up their entire country to 2000 foreigners who had just arrived?"

A Showdown Is Coming Part 4. Radical Maori (or Tribalists) say "In 1840 Maori numbered roughly 75,000 and the British 2000. Why would 75,000 people (Maori) give up their entire country to 2000 foreigners who had just arrived?"

In part 1 of this ‘Showdown’ series, I said that a massive showdown is coming regarding the Treaty.

I explained how the dictionary defines a showdown: “a big argument or conflict which is intended to settle a dispute that has lasted for a long time.”

I said that as I see it, Maori Activists, their woke (often white) fellow travellers, including some so called ‘academics’  and the Main Stream Media are amassing.  I called this group the treasonists.

I said that their goal over the next year of so is to convince the public that:

  1. Maori didn’t ceded sovereignty to the British Crown in 1840.
  2. Maori had all their land stolen or confiscated in the period 1800 to 1900.
  3. In 1840 Maori numbered roughly 75,000 and the British 2000.  The treasonists say things like “Why would 75,000 people give up their entire country to 2000 foreigners who had just arrived?”
  4. Maori say they are the indigenous people of New Zealand and that they were here first.  They say that being first here gives them to right to say what goes on in our country, and who owns what.  In fact, they say that New Zealand belongs to Maori and they want it back by 2040.
  5. The poor performance of Maori in society is caused by the trauma associated with colonialism i.e. the coming of the British.
  6. As a result of 1-5 above, all the forests, fisheries, beaches, mountains and so on (i.e. the entire country) belong to Maori and they want them / it back by 2040.

These 6 points pretty much summarise the Activist Maori argument.

So if the public of New Zealand know each of these six points, and can counter each with facts and truth, they can stop the takeover of our country.  Please try and remember these six points.

Why are the activists going to focus on convincing the public on the truth of 1-6 above ” over the next year or so” ?

In part 1 of this ‘Showdown’ series  I explained that David Seymour, through his Treaty Principles Bill, will be calling for public submissions.  He has said (in February 2024) ‘this is about a year away’.

The treasonists hope that between now and then they will be able to convince the public to embrace / believe 1-6 above, and as such, have David Seymour’s Bill thrown out.

I explained that on the other side, those opposing the the treasonists, are the truth lovers, the lovers of democracy, the lovers of New Zealand, the lovers of equality and historial fact, the lovers of one law for all.  This group hate apartheid and racism.  They detest being shafted.

I called this group ‘the lovers of democracy’ (LOD).

In yesterday’s blog I explained that LOD are  people like Julian Batchelor and Stop Co-Governance, John Porter, Democracy Action, Hobson’s Pledge, NZCPR, NZ Tax Payers’ Union, Voices for Freedom , RCR Radio, Terry Opines, Sir Bob Jones, Garrick Tremain, Sean Plunket’s Platform, the Free Speech Union, Bruce Moon, Dr John Robinson, Mike Butler, Graham Adams, Cameron Slater and the BFD, the Red Baiter, Whangarei Tim, Brad Mitchell, Waikanae Watch, Tony Fellingham, Cultural Dementia, Chris Trotter, Karl Du Fresne, Tross Publishing, Gary Judd KC, Lee Williams and others.

That’s it – LOD versus the treasonists.   The Showdown.

Over the next few blogs I will be dealing with the the treasonists 1-6 above.

Beating the the treasonists is only going to happen if we disprove their arguments with facts.

OK, the first lie of the the treasonists is that “Maori did not cede sovereignty”.

In Part 1 of this series, I explained that there was /is  compelling evidence that Maori DID cede sovereignty.

To read the evidence / facts, click HERE

In Part 2 of this series, I showed Maori did not lose their land (i.e. point 2 of the the treasonists argument above), which is what they say happened.

No, they SOLD their land.  Click HERE to read why.

There is strong evidence Maori sold at least 1/3 of New Zealand to settlers before 1840.  The rest of 92% was sold after 1840.

Some of our team are working on putting the record of all the pre-1840 land sales together.  Click HERE to see one of their source documents.

Reputable historians write/ report other significant land sales that notable ‘dodgy NZ historians’ conveniently pass over.

For example, Matthew Wright reports how W.C Wentworth and his partners (based in Sydney) purchased 20 million acres from visiting south Island chiefs in 1838.[ Matthew Wright.  Illustrated History of New Zealand. David Bateman Press. 2013. P52).

Don’t forget, the total land area of New Zealand is 66 million acres.   So this one sale represented nearly 1/3 of New Zealand.

Wright also reports how the New Zealand Company purchased the central North Island in late 1839.  No details of exactly how much land was involved.

Acclaimed Historian Bain Attwood notes in his brilliant book how Ngai Tahu sold 32 million acres to Governor Grey.

So the notion that Maori had all their land stolen is a blatant lie.

If you have reputable books and references about New Zealand land sales, and how and when Maori sold their land, we’d love to hear from you.  Write to me please: julian@stopcogov.kiwi

Why the big emphasis on proving that Maori sold their land? And that it was not stolen from them?

First, it would defeat the argument that all their land was stolen, which they use in a very emotional way to sway public opinion.

Second, even if they did not cede sovereignty (and they did), if they went on to sell their land, then not ceding sovereignty is nullified i.e. cancelled out. That is to say, if the land they say they want sovereignty  over (i.e New Zealand today) is not theirs anymore (i.e. it’s now owned by non-Maori), then what’s the point in saying Maori did not cede sovereignty?  One can’t be sovereign (i.e. have control over) over land belonging to other people.

Third,  they say the Treaty promises to protect their land i.e their possession of it.  This is a truth.  But the great lie of the activists today is that they say the Treaty promises to give them back their land after they sold it.

Somehow, activists have come to believe that land sold by Maori in the past still belongs to Maori today. They can’t tell you why this is so.  It just is.  In other words, activists are living in a fantasy world.

Really, what Maori today are suffering from is sellers’ remorse.

All of us, including myself, have experienced ‘sellers’ remorse’.

What is sellers remorse?  It’s experiencing personal sadness / regret over a property we used to own, but now do not own.

For example, we might have sold a property in 1990 for $50,000.

Today that same property is worth $1 million.  We say “You know what, I should not have sold it.  I should have kept it.  Too bad.  I sold it and I will have to live with that decision.  The property is gone.  I have to get over it.’

That’s sellers’ remorse.

Most of us have been there, done that.

Today, in part 4 of this showdown series, I am going to discuss point 3 (above) of the activist’s argument.

They say:

“In 1840 Maori numbered roughly 75,000 and the British 2000.  The treasonists say things like “Why would 75,000 people give up their entire country to 2000 foreigners who had just arrived?”

In saying this they are trying to deceive people who don’t know New Zealand history.  Who are. these people who do not know New Zealand history?

Without doubt, this is the majority of the population.

Their argument sounds logical and reasonable, which is how deception works. This is the reason many New Zealanders will be sucked in by it and  naively led along to believe it.

But what is the truth here?

The truth is that Maori in 1840 were tired of warring among themselves.  If you like, they were worn out with tribal warfare.

Who says so ?

Esteemed historian Michael Wright writes:

“The main factors causing the Musket wars to die out were exhaustion and the rising tide of European settlement. Huge casualties, coupled with migration (Maori tribes were constantly on the run from other tribes who were looking for them to make war with them)  and the drain warfare placed on resources meant Maori had fought themselves to a standstill by the late 1830s, just as the British began appearing in numbers. Maori did it themselves; more often than not, wars and some struggles were ended by the intervention of lay preachers.” [1] Matthew Wright.  Illustrated History of New Zealand. David Bateman Press. 2013. P45

For 600 years, Maori had tried to ‘sort themselves out’ but it was beyond them.  By 1840 they had come to their wits end.  They were also terrified of the French.

In combination, these were the two main reasons why Maori gave up the government of their country to the British in 1840 i.e. ceded sovereignty

Read Historian Bruce Moon’s explanation on how Maori came to fear the French HERE.

Tired of war and fearful of the French, the chiefs pleaded with the British to come and help them.

You can read the letter of 13 Nga Puhi Chiefs to King William in 1831 HERE.

Need more evidence that Maori in 1840 invited the British to come and help them?  And this is the reason they ceded sovereignty?

We need to look at the speeches of the chiefs in the tent at Waitangi on the 5th of February 1840, the day before the Treaty was signed on the 6th of February.

Many of these speeches are peppered with an invitation, asking the British to be a parent / father to Maori.

HERE are the speeches.

Be sure to take special notice of the speech of Tamati Pukututu, chief of Te Uri-o-te-hawato Tribe.

Why?

When one reads all the speeches of the chiefs you’ll notice many say, ‘We want our land back’.  The activists today cite this as proof that their land was stolen.

But this is not ‘proof’. How so?

Tamati Pukututu explains ‘….they have sold all their possessions [i.e. their land], and they are filled with foreign property, and they have no more to sell…”.

Conclusion? Maori had sold all their land.  With the money they received they bought ‘foreign property’ e.g. guns, clothing, gun powder, live stock, metal objects etc

Conclusion? Those chiefs who cried out in the tent in their speeches on the 5th of February 1840 at Waitangi  ‘we want our land back’ were simply suffering from sellers remorse.

Tamati Pukututu was an eye witness. He says so.

A massive showdown is coming regarding the Treaty.

The dictionary defines a showdown in this way: A showdown is a big argument or conflict which is intended to settle a dispute that has lasted for a long time.

As I see it, Maori Activists, their woke (often white) fellow travellers, including some so called ‘academics’, and the Main Streat Media are amassing.  Let’s call this group the crazies.

Hi Julian,

Suggestion – you put something on the pending 600 overlapping foreshore claims on your blog. I am amazed at the number of people I talk to who have no idea. My understanding is the first cases go before the courts in the next few months. This is part of the takeover that is very real and about to start unless Govt steps in. They have been very quiet on this considering the imminent start of the cases.
