STOP CO-GOVERNANCE

A Showdown Is Coming Part 5: Is It True That Maori Are The Indigenous People of New Zealand? No, It's Not True.

A Showdown Is Coming Part 5: Is It True That Maori Are The Indigenous People of New Zealand? No, It's Not True.

Today is Part 5 of what I have called a ‘Showdown’ series of blogs.

I have said that a massive showdown is coming regarding the Treaty.

I explained how the dictionary defines a showdown: “a big argument or conflict which is intended to settle a dispute that has lasted for a long time.”

I said that as I see it, Maori Activists, their woke (often white) fellow travellers, including some so-called ‘academics’ and the Main Stream Media are amassing.  I called this group the treasonists.

I said that their goal over the next year or so is to convince the public that:

  1. Maori didn’t ceded sovereignty to the British Crown in 1840.
  2. Maori had all their land stolen or confiscated in the period 1800 to 1900.
  3. In 1840 Maori numbered roughly 75,000 and the British 2000.  The treasonists say things like, “Why would 75,000 people give up their entire country to 2000 foreigners who had just arrived?”
  4. Maori say they are the indigenous people of New Zealand and that they were here first.  They say that being first here gives them to right to say what goes on in our country, and who owns what.  In fact, they say that New Zealand belongs to Maori and they want it back by 2040.
  5. The poor performance of Maori in society is caused by the trauma associated with colonialism i.e. the coming of the British.
  6. As a result of 1-5 above, all the forests, fisheries, beaches, mountains and so on (i.e. the entire country) belong to Maori and they want them / it back by 2040.

These 6 points pretty much summarise the Activist Maori argument.

I have already dealt with points 1-3 above in previous blogs.  If you missed them, just refer to these previous blog posts.

Today I want to discuss point 4.

That is to say, Maori say they are the indigenous people.  Why do they say this? Why is this important to them?

Well, Maori claim that according to the United Nations, the indigenous people of a country must be given special privileges and accorded status above other citizens.  In 2010, New Zealand signed UNDRIP which stands for United Nations Declaration On The Rights Of Indigenous People.

You can read UNDRIP HERE

You can read HERE why UNDRIP has no relevance to New Zealand Maori.

Now here is the point.  In signing the Treaty of Waitangi, and ceding sovereignty (Article One of the Treaty), Maori gave the British the right to install democracy in New Zealand.

Prior to 1840, tribal rule had been the mode of government in this country – dog eat dog, ‘might is right’ style rule.

By installing democracy, and by Maori becoming British citizens, all the citizens of this country were made equal (Article 3 of the Treaty).

Conveniently, radical Maori want to ignore this aspect of the Treaty.   They want UNDRIP to trump this aspect of the Treaty.

Their hypocrisy is eye watering.  On the one hand radical Maori cry, ‘Honour the Treaty!’ calling for absolute iron fisted adherence to it, and on the other they want us to ignore important Treaty facts, like equality of citizenship.

This, essentially, is what David Seymour is targeting in his Treaty Principles Bill.  He is calling out Maori to honour ALL of the Treaty, not just the bits they like.

OK, back to Maori not being indigenous.

To get a reliable and accurate definition of the word ‘indigenous’ you have to find old dictionaries.  By this I mean dictionaries which have not been doctored / altered by radicals around the world to make the definitions fit their purpose.

So what does ‘indigenous’ mean?  It refers to a people group who have been in a country from the very beginning.  Maori don’t fit this definition.  They came here from somewhere else.

Even Ngapuhi elder David Rankin says Maori are not indigenous.  Read what he says HERE.

Winston Peters is another.  Read his comments HERE.

A Showdown Is Coming Part 1

A Showdown Is Coming Part 1

A massive showdown is coming regarding the Treaty.

The dictionary defines a showdown in this way: A showdown is a big argument or conflict which is intended to settle a dispute that has lasted for a long time.

As I see it, Maori Activists, their woke (often white) fellow travellers, including some so called ‘academics’, and the Main Streat Media are amassing.  Let’s call this group the crazies.

Their goal over the next year of so  is to convince the public that:

  1. Maori didn’t  ceded sovereignty to the British Crown in 1840
  2. Maori had all their land stolen or confiscated in the period 1800 to 1900
  3. In 1840 Maori numbered roughly 75,000 and the British 2000.  The crazies say things like “Why would 75,000 people give up their entire country to 2000 foreigners who had just arrived?”
  4. Maori say they are the indigenous people of New Zealand and that they were here first.  They say that being first here gives them to right to say what goes on here, and who owns what.  In fact, they say that New Zealand belongs to Maori and they want it back by 2040.
  5. The poor performance of Maori in society is caused by the trauma associated with  colonialism i.e. the coming of the British
  6. As a result of 1-5 above, all the forests, fisheries, beaches, mountains and so on belong to Maori and they want them back.

Why over the next year or so?

Well, David Seymour, through his Treaty Principles Bill, will be calling for public submissions.  He has said ‘this is about a year away’.

The crazies hope that between now and then they will be able to convince the public to embrace / believe 1-6 above, and as such, have David Seymour’s Bill throw out.

On the other side, those opposing the crazies, are the truth lovers, the lovers of democracy, the lovers of New Zealand, the lovers of equality and historical fact, the lovers of one law for all.  This group hate apartheid and racism.  They detest being shafted.

Let’s call this group ‘the lovers of democracy’ (LOD).

That’s people like Julian Batchelor and Stop Co-Governance, John Porter, Democracy Action, Hobson’s Pledge, NZCPR, NZ Tax Payers’ Union, Voices for Freedom, RCR Radio, Terry Opines, Bob Jones, Garrick Tremain, Sean Plunket’s Platform, the Free Speech Union, Bruce Moon, Dr John Robinson, Mike Butler, Graham Adams, Cameron Slater and the BFD, the Red Baiter, Whangarei Tim, Brad Mitchell, Waikanae Watch, Tony Fellingham, Cultural Dementia, Chris Trotter, Karl Du Fresne, Tross Publishing, Lee Williams and others.

That’s it – LOD versus the Crazies.   The Showdown.

Over the next few weeks I will be dealing with the Crazies 1-6 above.
