A Showdown Is Coming Part 1
A massive showdown is coming regarding the Treaty.
The dictionary defines a showdown in this way: A showdown is a big argument or conflict which is intended to settle a dispute that has lasted for a long time.
As I see it, Maori Activists, their woke (often white) fellow travellers, including some so called ‘academics’, and the Main Stream Media are amassing. Let’s call this group the crazies.
Their goal over the next year of so is to convince the public that:
- Maori didn’t ceded sovereignty to the British Crown in 1840.
- Maori had all their land stolen or confiscated in the period 1800 to 1900.
- In 1840 Maori numbered roughly 75,000 and the British 2000. The crazies say things like “Why would 75,000 people give up their entire country to 2000 foreigners who had just arrived?”
- Maori are the indigenous people of New Zealand and that they were here first. They say that being first here gives them to right to say what goes on here, and who owns what. In fact, they say that New Zealand belongs to Maori and they want it back by 2040.
- The poor performance of Maori in society is caused by the trauma associated with colonialism i.e. the coming of the British.
- As a result of 1-5 above, all the forests, fisheries, beaches, mountains and so on belong to Maori and they want them back.
Why over the next year or so?
Well, David Seymour, through his Treaty Principles Bill, will be calling for public submissions. He has said ‘this is about a year away’.
The crazies hope that between now and then they will be able to convince the public to embrace / believe 1-6 above, and as such, have David Seymour’s Bill throw out.
On the other side, those opposing the crazies, are the truth lovers, the lovers of democracy, the lovers of New Zealand, the lovers of equality and historial fact, the lovers of one law for all. This group hate apartheid and racism. They detest being shafted.
Let’s call this group ‘the lovers of democracy’ (LOD).
That’s people like Julian Batchelor and Stop Co-Governance, John Porter, Democracy Action, Hobson’s Pledge, NZCPR, NZ Tax Payers’ Union, Voices for Freedom , RCR Radio, Terry Opines, Bob Jones, Garrick Tremain, Sean Plunket’s Platform, the Free Speech Union, Bruce Moon, Dr John Robinson, Mike Butler, Graham Adams, Cameron Slater and the BFD, the Red Baiter, Whangarei Tim, Brad Mitchell, Waikanae Watch, Tony Fellingham, Cultural Dementia, Chris Trotter, Karl Du Fresne, Tross Publishing, Lee Williams and others.
That’s it – LOD versus the Crazies. The Showdown.

Suggestion – you put something on the pending 600 overlapping foreshore claims on your blog. I am amazed at the number of people I talk to who have no idea. My understanding is the first cases go before the courts in the next few months. This is part of the takeover that is very real and about to start unless Govt steps in. They have been very quiet on this considering the imminent start of the cases.

Re Showdown
A showdown in one respect or another, certainly.
If the Treaty of Waitangi was a legal contract, which it isn’t, then it is clear that from the English wording of the contract, of whichever English version, the British intended Maori to cede sovereignty. If for the sake of argument it could be demonstrated beyond reasonable doubt that Maori tribes thought that “sovereignty” meant power sharing, or similar, then because the intent of such a critical point on which the rest of the contract hinges was moot, the entire contract would need to be voided.
Consequently Maori land titles would be in doubt, possibly needing to be torn up, whilst the Crown would need to deal with what would essentially be foreign tribal entities in our midst, i.e. not subject to New Zealand sovereignty.
Clearly this would then have entered the realm of the ridiculous. Just as well the Treaty isn’t a legal contract, but the problem still remains.
As plain as the nose on our faces, the answer has to be to once and for all kill the no sovereignty claim. Achieving that by holding a binding referendum that would be used to justify and lock in, as far as is constitutionally possible, legislative changes properly outlawing racial discrimination of whatever polarity.
As from evidence so far, National have neither the will nor fortitude to implement such a strategy, risking serious confrontation with Maori tribal entities, it’s difficult to see this ending in anything other than a coalition meltdown (showdown) with National and Act opposing each other, with Peters/NZ First once again unclear which waka he will choose to jump into.
Crazies indeed! Can’t imagine why anybody would believe all the falsehoods/rewritten history etc and would think that Tribal Rule is going to be in any way good for New Zealand, even for the ‘crazies’. Let’s hope the showdown works and truth and commonsense prevail.
You won’t be getting a referendum with Luxon in charge at this juncture that’s for sure.. Might be that Nicola Willis has more backbone ? We will have to wait and see. Mind you there are more and more people waking up to Luxon being a bit of aWimp. David Seymour’s Bill might stiffen Luxon’s spine ? But somehow I doubt it.
I see a lot of anti-Luxon stuff coming across here. He is the prime minister and he has an energy about him that no one else is offering. He is the guy that we need to get onside. The others are pressure points and focus points but we need Luxon. Do not underestimate him. I think that we can’t yet see all ways and means but all of us know that it isn’t ended until we have straight up democracy. We don’t want two peoples: we are one people. We don’t want different standards and different laws. All of the guys in power now are on board with that. Which ever way you look at it, a huge number of people support the proper democracy end and it is ultimately Luxon who has to get us there and whilst I might prefer otherwise it is he that is best positioned to make it all happen.
Also, a referendum on the treaty principles is one mechanism, but that doesn’t need to be the only mechanism (it is mine at the moment but I have been sold on it by Seymour). I wonder, should there be any ‘principles’ at all? If ‘principles’ are a mistake – perhaps it is better not to have a treaty principles bill and to remove reference to treaty principles in the various Acts – including the Acts that setup the Waitangi tribunal. Just a thought.
