Analysis: 'Treaty of Waitangi' Comic For High School Students Has Been Quietly Brainwashing Away Since 2018 (Part 35)

Above is another picture from the comic we have been analysing. Today we start on page 11.

HERE is the whole comic.

If you want to know why we are analysing this comic, just refer to blogs for the last few days.

You can read our analysis of previous sections of the comic by going to our web site and clicking on ‘blogs’.

In short, the comic was released into schools in 2018  to brainwash our children.

What is its purpose?

Maori Activists inside the Labour government, particularly the Maori caucus, supported by the Greens and Te Pati Maori, plus a hoard of woke bureaucrats are grooming our children so that when our children leave school and become old enough to vote, they will vote for the Maori activist cause.

In this way, so their plan goes, Maori will be able to legitimately and legally take over the country.  That is to say, they are grooming our children to vote for the Maori activist cause.  This comic is therefore propaganda.

What’s happening here is exactly what happened in other regimes in the 1920s and 30s, preparing the ground for dictatorship. In the case of New Zealand, it’s  preparing the country for tribal rule.

Hitler had his Hitler Youth.

Now we have the “Maori Youth” mirroring them, as evidenced by the actions of Female Hurricanes, the students of a Palmerston North School, and the Maori who tried to stop the fishing contest in Northland. Here is another example – click HERE and  click HERE

So what is there to say about this picture on page 11?

—————————–

On page 11, the comic steps up the brainwashing / propaganda.

It says, “As punishment for “rebelling” against the government, the British took millions of hectares of land from some iwi.’

What are we to make of this?

First, the word “rebelling” is in inverted commas, which makes it a snide remark.  It’s contemptuous. It’s scoffing.  The authors of the comic don’t believe Maori were rebelling, but they were.  Plain and simple, this is what they were doing.

The rebellious chiefs of the time spoke of rebellion, of a separate and sovereign monarch, of a separate state, of division of the nation.  This was treason and the British put down the rebellions.   The Maori chiefs who were rebelling were warned that if they continued with what they were doing, the British would send in troops, which they did.

What about the confiscations of land?  These were to pay for the cost of putting down the rebellions.  New Zealand was an infant colony, struggling financially.  Keeping law and order cost.   That the British made the rebels pay for the cost of their rebellion was entirely fair.

These rebel chiefs were breaching the Treaty.  They had signed up to come under the sovereign rule of the British via the Treaty.  This meant being loyal to the government, not competing with it for control of the country.

What’s missing from this comic, glaringly, is any mention of the Kohimarama Conference in 1860 where 112 chiefs met for a month.  Many of these same chiefs had signed the Treaty at Waitangi, 20 years earlier.

At the end of the conference they moved and passed a series of resolutions. They were unanimous that they ceded sovereignty to the Queen at Waitangi in 1840.  They also pledged to do nothing to breach the Treaty.  That is to say, they pledged not to do what the rebel chiefs were doing.

Read carefully the resolution from the conference below.

What this conference tells us is that there were many chiefs who were honouring the Treaty, working with the government.

The comic wants to give the impression that all the chiefs were rebelling. This is far from the truth.  The truth is that it was only a tiny fraction of chiefs.   The rest were ‘with’ the British, and on their side.

Dr John Robinson makes a good point about the Maori King in New Zealand today. “In his keynote speech to mark the tenth anniversary of his ascension, the Maori King spoke of Maori exercising dual sovereignty over Aotearoa-New Zealand by 2025. This is less constitutional monarchy than it is constitutional revolution. This is met with bland acceptance and Government support for the movement, with a complete absence of awareness of past history and the implications for the future. The meetings with flag and ceremony that seemed theatre in the nineteenth century were followed by threats and military action by the rebels to support their claims for separate territory, and open rebellion. The current seemingly absurd call for separation of New Zealand into two monarchies may prove to be more than symbolic if kingites once again take armed action.” (John Robinson. The Kingite Rebellion. Tross Publishing. 2016.Page 365)

It’s obvious. The authors of this comic are radicalising our young people, sowing in them the seeds of rebellion too.

So what is there to say about this picture on page 10?  Yesterday, we discussed the Wairau Affray.

Today I will finish off where I left off yesterday.

—————————–

At the path on the other side of a stream, Te Rauparaha stood surrounded by about 90 warriors, as well as by women and children. He allowed Thompson and five other men to approach him, but requested the rest of the British party to remain on their side of the stream.

Thompson refused to shake hands with Te Rauparaha and said that he had come to arrest him, not over the land issue but for burning the huts.

Te Rauparaha replied that the huts had been made from rushes grown on his own land, and thus he had burnt his own property. Thompson insisted on arresting Te Rauparaha, produced a pair of handcuffs, and called out to the men on the far side of the stream, ordering them to fix bayonets and advance.

As they began to cross, one of the British fired a shot (apparently by accident). Te Rangihaeata’s wife Te Rongo was killed in one of the first volleys, sparking gunfire from both sides.

The British retreated across the stream, scrambling up the hill under fire from the Ngāti Toa. Several people from both sides were killed.

Te Rauparaha ordered the Ngāti Toa warriors to cross the stream in pursuit. Those British who had not escaped were quickly overtaken. Wakefield called for a ceasefire and surrendered, along with Thompson, Richardson and ten others. The Maori killed two of the British immediately.

Te Rangihaeata demanded utu (revenge) for the death of his wife Te Rongo. The Maori killed all the remaining captives, including Thompson, Samuel Cottrell, a member of the original survey team; interpreter John Brooks, and Captain Wakefield. Four Māori died and three were wounded in the incident. The British lost 22 dead and five wounded.

Shortland was at the time the Acting Governor, filling the gap between Hobson and Fitzroy.

Shortland did nothing.

What should have happened?

Forces should have been in to arrest and try all those involved in the incident.  The person who killed the wife of the Maori chief ought to have been tried, charged with manslaughter or murder, and sentenced accordingly.

The Maoris who murdered the 22 Europeans should have been tried and sentenced too.

No matter how hard it was to achieve this end, this is what ought to have happened, but it didn’t.

And so the gravy train was set in motion.  Maori discovered the government was an easy beat, quick to appease, and easy to push around. One law for Maori and another law for everyone else was birthed. The seeds of apartheid, inequality, and separatism were sown.

Dr John Robinson writes “Inaction would show the promise of a new system of law and order, desired by many Maori and promised by the Treaty of Waitangi, to be only a chimera.”

By taking no action, by not using force to make sure justice was done, the British showed they were weak, afraid, and easy to bully and intimidate.  They could have and should have brought troops and war ships from around the world to sort this situation.

Because they didn’t, Maori lost respect for the British.

Peace comes through strength.  Peace does not come through weakness.

Not only this, but the British response encouraged / empowered Maori to employ violence when going head-to-head with the British.

Maori respect power, strength, and force.   Like all people, they need boundaries.  They respect those who stand up to them, those who uphold the rule of law.  Over 200 years successive governments have introduced Maori to entitlement, privilege, and special favour, and they have gotten used to it.

As famous philosopher / thinker Dr Thomas Sowell said, “When people get used to preferential treatment, equal treatment seems like discrimination.”

John Robinson sums up nicely when he says, “The killing at Wairau on 17th of June, 1843 was rebellion. Te Rauparaha had signed the Treaty of Waitangi – twice. Those they killed were public servants, special constables doing their duty for the State. But these two chiefs were seen to be above the law. They continued to act that way, inciting rebellion; Te Rauparaha threatened a massacre of Wellington settlers. “Now is the time to strike. Come forward and sweep them from the land”. This apparently unchallenged posturing was to influence Hone Heke in his rebellion against his tribal elders and the Government.” (Robinson, page 51).

From 1944 onwards, more Maori groups over the next four decades decided to take on the British, based on the weak British response to the Wairau Affray.  This is how the New Zealand wars were ignited.

Today, many politicians are weak, caving into to Maori activists, appeasing them.

Here is a video of John Key caving in.

Here is why appeasing Maori activists is the worst thing to do for Maori.

What’s needed today is a strong response to Maori activism.  Start by abolishing the Maori seats and repeal all race-based legislation.  Level the playing field.  Restore democracy and equality.

The comic, as you would expect, details none of this history.

So what is there to say about this picture on page 10?  Yesterday, I listed the land wars and we examined the Northern War, 1845-1846.  Today I want to discuss the other wars listed below.

—————————–

Here are the wars.

New Zealand Land Wars timeline:

  • The Wairau Affray 1843
  • The Northern War: 1845-1846.
  • Wellington: 1846-1847.
  • North Taranaki War: 1860-1861.
  • Waikato Invasion: 1863-1864.
  • Central and South Taranaki: 1864-1868.
  • East Coast Wars: 1865-1872.

The New Zealand wars were kicked off, if you like, by an event known as the Wairau Affray, 17 June 1843.  Below is a picture of where Wairau is situated in New Zealand.

This was a hugely significant event in New Zealand’s history, because it set the pattern, or the scene if you like, of how the governments between 1840 and today should NOT deal with Maori.

The comic, naturally, mentions nothing of this crucial event in our history.  Why is it ignored?  It makes Maori look bad.  They were bad,  The event does not fit their narrative.

What happened?

A business called the New Zealand Company was buying land in New Zealand and on selling it to settlers. GJ Gardner homes today would be the equivalent.

However, before the land purchased by the New Zealand company could officially be on sold, the sale had to be investigated by what was known as the Land Sales Commission (LSC), led by a British official with the surname Spain.

The day after Hobson arrived here in New Zealand (i.e. Thursday January 30th, 1840), he announced that all land sales between Maori and Settlers prior to this date would be investigated.

The British wanted to establish whether these sales were bone fide or not.  That is to say, whether the boundaries between the parties had been clearly established, whether the true owners had been identified, whether the price had been agreed, whether the paper work was in order, and so on.

At least 1/3 of New Zealand had been ‘sold’ by Maori to settlers prior to 1840.

One of the issues which the comic avoids like the plague is that fact that Maoris were literally lusting for guns from settlers and they would do anything, sell anything, to get them.  Why did they want guns so much?  For Utu.  To take revenge on another tribe.  To kill another tribe.  To kill their own people.

So what did they sell to get the guns?

You guessed it – land.

So it was not European land grabbers who were the cause of Maori land loss, it was Maoris and their insatiable lust for guns.

If Maori were a peace loving culture, there would have been no need to buy guns, and so no need to sell their land.   If they were a peaceful culture,  might still have had all their land today.   But this is not how history played out.  Maoris have only themselves to blame for their land loss. They sold most of it to buy guns and ammunition.

The comic is silent about this.  Deafingly silent.

T. Lindsay Buick, 1800s historian and politician writes:  “What gold was to the Spaniard in Mexico the land at this period became to the English in the islands, and as the warlike aboringines most coveted the acquisition of firearms, they divested themselves of their only possessions in order to obtain those deadly instruments, which, together with their ardent spirits, [i.e. their desire to kill and avenenge], were the most potent means for the destruction of their race.” (T. Lindsay Buick.  The Treaty of Waitangi Or How New Zealand Became A British Colony. S  and W McKay Printers, Wellington. 1914. Page 30-31)

One of the sales to be investigated was in the Wairau Valley in the Nelson district. The New Zealand Company had on sold it to someone called Mr. Cotterell.

The New Zealand company claimed the sale was bone fide. The LSC said it would investigate.  Maori chiefs were protesting that the land was not ‘sold’, and that they still owned it, but agreed to have the LSC investigate the sale and make a ruling. The chiefs were Te Rauparaha and Te Rangihaeata.

The New Zealand Company, anticipating a result in their favour, sent surveyors in to survey the land, ahead of the LSC investigation. This was 25th of April 1840

Two months later, June 1840, Maori chiefs responded by sending a party to Wairau, where they destroyed all the surveyors’ equipment and shelters that had been made with products of the land. They burned down roughly-built thatched huts that contained surveying equipment. The surveyors were rounded up and sent unharmed back to Nelson.

Mr Cotterell went to the Police in Nelson and laid a complaint with the police magistrate, Mr Thompson.

After much, deliberation, a warrant was granted against Rauparaha and Rangihaeata on a charge of arson. They were to be arrested.

Dr John Robinson in his brilliant book writes “Thompson, being informed of the numbers of the natives, and of their being armed, resolved to attend the execution of the warrant himself, accompanied by an armed force.  He expressed his opinion that such a demonstration would prevent bloodshed, and impress upon the natives a sense of the authority of the law.  It is certain that actual resistance was not anticipated, and that the moral effect of the presence of the force was wholly relied on.  On the 17th of June, Thompson led 49 special constables (33 of whom were armed) to arrest Te Rauparaha and Te Rangihaeata.” ( John Robinson. The Kingite Rebillion.  Tross Publishing. 2016.  Page 47)

Thompson and his men set off to find the arsonists, to arrest them, and charge them with arson.

When they found them, they noted that they were armed. Thompson ordered the two chiefs to accompany Thompson and his men to a nearby ship, where there would be a proper trial and a hearing.  The chiefs could bring anyone they wanted with them.

These chiefs had signed up via the Treaty to obey British law, and by burning the huts had breached the Treaty.

The comic makes no mention of this – about Treaty breaches by Maori.

Thompson explained to the chiefs that his arrest had nothing to do with the chiefs land claim.  Rather, it was to do with destruction of property.

Te Rauparaha demanded that the matter be decided on the spot.

I have written much about this in my NEW book – the need by Maori to control people and situations.  This Wairau affray is a good example.  Te Rauparaha wanted to be in control. Call the shots.  You can read my book HERE.

Maori activists today want to control the narrative. They want to control, for example:

  • Who can interpret the Treaty
  • All the water in New Zealand
  • All the beaches in New Zealand
  • The language spoken in New Zealand
  • Where Maori names will appear
  • What will be taught in our schools
  • What law students will be taught
  • What real estate agents will be taught
  • What students starting university will be taught.
  • What we are allowed to do and not do on the ocean
  • What  we are allowed to do on our private land
  • You and I
  • Etc

The list is endless. They must have control.

As chiefs pre 1840 controlled their slaves, so Maori activists want to control the population of New Zealand.  Many politicians, unwittingly, are already under their control.

This comic we are studying has as its aim to get control of a whole generation – our children and grandchildren.

OK, back to the Wairau Affray.

Dr John Robinson writes “This curious scene is typical of the times, where a chief would speak of readiness to join in the new order, while insisting on impractical conditions” (Robinson, page 48)

Te Rauparaha and Rangihaeata argued that the land was theirs, and so the huts were theirs to do whatever they liked with them.

I will tell you what happened next tomorrow!!
