Interesting. This means all New Zealanders are indigenous. Yet UNDRIP asserts, even demands, special rights for the indigenous people of New Zealand i.e Maori.
The government will have to change everyone’s passport so that Maori are the only indigenous people, and the rest of us are imports.
We will then not qualify for special privileges, like Maori.
Inbloodydeed
For God’s sake, it’s part of their fokkaparper that they arrived in Canoes. the rest of us who arrived later are just the same the only difference is our canoes were a bloody sight larger and faster..
The bullshit we are presented with re the treaty and what they can read into one of the most simple and to the point documents ever written is mindboggling.
Born or originating in a particular place; spec. (now often with capital initial) designating a people or group inhabiting a place before the arrival of (European) settlers or colonizers.
As I have said in previous blogs the Internet is awash with corrupted definitions of all kinds of words now. It’s been invaded by woke separatists and cancel culture. If you want to know the genuine definitions of words now you have to go to very old dictionaries that are not on the Internet. That is to say hard copies.
This quote from the Oxford dictionary has two distinct parts 1. Born or originating in a particular place; 2.designating a people or group inhabiting a place before the arrival of (European) settlers or colonizers.
The really old classic dictionaries, hard copies, only have part 1. It’s patently obvious, part 2 has more recently been tacked on for political and ideological reasons.
With regards “Maori Are Not The Indigenous People Of New Zealand”
You’re entirely correct, the UN have trashed the dictionary definition in favour of a definition that fits their agenda. Where that definition is such a stupid oxymoron that it could easily be interpreted as all Kiwis being indigenous.
It is patently obvious that Maori are early settlers, unlike for example Aboriginals who have occupied the land for at least 15,000 years, with no known other location of origin. Something similar applies to several other peoples around the globe, but certainly not Maori, who arrived in boats around 1250.
In any case the notion of indigenuity somehow bestowing special rights to not be colonised is naively detached from reality. It is not the way the world works, never has. Indigenous or not, the basis of sovereignty is organisation (governance) and defensive capability, which are closely related, with defensive capability also being largely dependent on technological maturity. A disorganised, primitive Maori civilisation didn’t stand a chance of creating a defensible sovereignty. Colonisation was inevitable and there need be no apologies for that, as it is the way that civilisation has always advanced. E.g. the Romans colonising Britain etc.
You make a very very good point Ron re: the difference between the aboriginals of Australia and the Maori of New Zealand. Thank you for contributing. The aboriginals of Australia fit the classic definition of ‘indigenous’ whereas Maori in New Zealand do not. End of story.
Lawyer and historian Stuart C. Scott asserts “As a result of assembling comments from respected historians, it be concluded that the Maoris were a non-literate primitive race of immigrants who arrived in this country early in the present millennium from an unknown place of origin somewhere in the Pacific.”
So just as the Australian aborigines are thought to have migrated to Northern Australia from Asia using primitive boats, so too did Māori who arrived to New Zealand centuries later.
I certainly agree that Maori are not indigenous to this country BUT you are going down a rabbit hole if you try to use this argument – it will go absolutely nowhere as any sort of reason to stop this nonsense.
We must use democracy as the main and irrefutable argument. It’s the best and most valid!
Can you explain what you mean when you say ‘we must use democracy as the main and irrefutable argument’? You lost me here. The point I was making is that, via UNDRIP, Maori can simply ‘self identify’ as indigenous. They don’t need any proof of anything!
I agree! I thought that you were arguing as others do that disputing that they are indigenous was a valid argument. It is but still a rabbit hole and not worth pursuing. The loss of our democracy fought for over 800 Years is much more direct I think.
From UNDRIP
Affirming further that all doctrines, policies and practices based on or advocating superiority of peoples or individuals on the basis of national origin or racial, religious, ethnic or cultural differences are racist, scientifically false, legally invalid, morally condemnable and socially unjust,”
Article 46.3 makes it clear that the indigenous people of any country can’t do anything which undermines democracy and equality.
All in all a lot of what the UN says in contradicted in another of their articles.
Not forgetting the big question of the week ” who owns the wind”
Colin, what you say is absolutely correct. Our problem is that Maori radicals, the Maori caucus and Jacinda Ardern pay little attention to contradictions. Willie and co are not the sharpest pencils in the box. Our mission is to get the information about all the corruption out to the general public so that we can stop the bus AND put.pressure on Luxon and co to outlaw co-governance..
Hello Therе. I found your bⅼog using msn. Thiѕ is a really well written article.
I’ll be sure to bookmaгk it and come back to read more of your useful information. Thanks for the post.
I’ll definitely rеturn.
Those of us with one passport only, the New Zealand passport are indigenous to New Zealand. Check a dictionary .
