You are correct, “The chiefs of the confederation of united tribes, and the other chiefs who have not joined the confederation, cede to the Queen of England forever the entire sovereignty/government of their country.” and in return, Article 3 gave Maori “The same rights as the people of England” but that’s as far as the Treaty went. It left New Zealnd under the dependency of New South Wales. Fact!
If we are to understand New Zealand true history, then we must follow this on with what happened next.
What happened next is; Queen Victoria issued a Royal Charter/Letters Patent on the 16 Novemeber 1840 that separated New Zealand from New South Wales dependency and made New Zealand into a British Colony on 3 May 1841 with a governor and constitution that set up New Zealand’s political, legal and justice sytemes under one flag and one law, irespective of race, colour or creed.
If you are going to tell New Zealand’s history, then don’t stop at the Treaty, it’s only a very small part of our history, tell the whole story.
You are correct ONZF ONZF. Not enough is told about the real history. I have read among some books, The Musket Wars and understand why the Treaty came about. What happened in New Zealand between 1800 & 1840s was horrendous. And I can not see co-governance would ever work. Some of the stuff we are seeing from the “Elite” is like what the warring tribes back then trying to get dominance and not just there own area but all over the country. Until The Treaty was signed they did not live in peace and harmony. They took no prisoners.
Thank you Julian for sharing your friends story “Rampage against Co- Governance” All i can say , he is one hell of a New Zealander . How can this story (and i’m sure there are more like it) be spread to the people that care about this country and its destruction by only a few.
I think the best way is to print the business cards that I advertise a lot and start giving them out The key to change is awareness. The business cards will lead people to me speaking in Warkworth. This video has created a lot of awareness and will continue to do so.
All politicians should apon entering Parliament be fully conversant with the Waitangi treaty, especially its main important paragraphs.
If they were, co government etc. Would in no way be an issue.
