The Littlewood draft will have been read by very few Maori.
The confusion of today is not lack of education, it is being unable to comprehend.
To me, this ‘Draft’ is quite simple to understand.
National is the new Labour and luxon is a PC woke less than a perfect leader for national, he will create more problems when he gets in next year, as he will, and we will topple further to the left and further into Maorification. National is dead, curse the left.
I wonder could every cobbler in NZ put a lump of lead in the right shoe or boot he sells to a national MP , t may get them back into balance.
I wish all you national MPs would get to grips with the fact you are supposed to be full time conservatives and not part-time lefties
The Treaty of Waitangi actually consists of 5 parts, The Preamble, the 3 Articles and the Consent and is what the chiefs signed in 1840.
The Preamble, as in any document, is extremely importan as it explains why the Treaty was written. The Consent is also important as it confirmed the chiefs agreed to and understood the words of the Treaty.
Preamble – Her Majesty Victoria, Queen of England in Her gracious consideration of the Chiefs and the people of New Zealand, and Her desire to preserve to them their lands and to maintain peace and order amongst them, has been please to appoint an officer to treat with them for the cession of the Sovreinty of their country and of the islands adjacent, to the Queen. Seeing that many of Her Majesty’s Subjects have already settled in the country and are constantly arriving, and it is desirable for their protection as well as the protection of the natives, to establish a government amongst them.
Her Majesty has accordingly been pleased to appoint Mr. William Hobson, a Captain in the Royal Navy to be Governor in such parts of New Zealand as may now or hereafter be ceded to Her Majesty and proposes to the Chiefs of the Confederation of United Tribes of New Zealand and the other chiefs to agree to the following articles.
Consent – Now we the chiefs of the Confederation of the United Tribes of New Zealand assembled at Waitangi, and we the other tribes of New Zealand, having understood the meaning of these articles, accept them and agree to them all, In witness thereof
Our names and marks are affixed. Done at Waitangi on the 4th February 1840.
There can be no dispute that the chiefs who signed the Treaty in 1840 did not understand it when the Preamble and Consent are included.

No parliament can bind its successor.
Every parliament has its ‘democratic right’ to sovereignty.
Harking back to the treaty is irrelevant.
As Prendergast was replaced, so have succeeding laws.
What’s more, Parliament can and does, remove common-law which intermittently fills a void when Courts decide they are superior to parliament.
Helen Clark’s 2004 Foreshore Protection Act was a case in point where the prime minister asserted the supremacy of parliament putting Sian Elias Chief Judge in her correct place on the ladder..
Regrettably that protection against “wreckers and haters” as Clark referred to some Maori at the time, was caste aside by John Key and a chap named Finlayson.
So! Harking on about the treaty as seems to be the crusade of OneNZF, is inane. The treaty can be annulled- anytime a parliament decided to do so. All it takes is a Prime Minister with intelligence and fortitude- but in my view, Luxon does not meet that standard

The ONZF does not hark on about the Treaty because it was only an agreement between the Maori chiefs and Queen Victoria where the chiefs gave up their governments and in return, they became British Subjects with the same rights as the peope of England. Once signed, it was file away as it had achieved its purpose.
What we do hark on about is Queen Victoria’s Royal Charter/Letters Patent dated 16 November 1840 that made New Zealand into a British Colony with a Governor and Constitution that set up New Zealand’s political, legal and justice systems under one flag and one law, irrespective of race, colour or creed.
While the Treaty may be able to be annulled, it could only be annulled by Parliament that the Royal Charter set up on 3 May 1840. Our true Founding Document and first Constitution.
It was pretty obvious as soon as he stuck his head above the political parapet, that te reo student, “diversity matters” Luxon is as woke as they come. In that regard an almost perfect fit for the party that National has become. A perfect fit for a very large slice of the population, many of whom will have voted for Ardern at the last election in their cringe worthy fear of a virus from which “Cindy will save us all”.
